NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior defender Ancil Farrier (Los Bajos, Trinidad) scored a goal and an assist, but the No. 6 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team lost 3-2 to the University of Bridgeport on Sunday in the final game of the 2007 Southern Connecticut State University Autumn Classic. With the victory, Bridgeport improves to 2-0. With the loss, SCSU falls to 1-1.

After 39 scoreless minutes of play to open the game, Bridgeport struck first in the 40th minute when Curt Sutherland tallied an unassisted goal to give the Purple Knights a 1-0 lead heading to the locker room.

The two teams exploded to combine for four goals in the second half. SCSU scored twice in the stanza's first 14 minutes to take a 2-1 lead. In the 47th minute, senior forward Colin Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) scored his second goal in as many games off a feed from Farrier to tie the game at 1-1. Just over 12 minutes later, Farrier scored a goal of his own in the 60th minute. Farrier was inside the six-yard box, got his foot on a corner kick taken by junior midfielder Djordje Jankovic (Sabac, Serbia) and directed it into the net.

Bridgeport tied the game 2-2 in the 68th minute when Blaise Njie served the ball into the box from the left side. He found Nikhil Dolly near the top of the penalty area, and Dolly beat SCSU sophomore goalkeeper Joe Pilla (Watertown, Conn.) to tie the game. The Purple Eagles took the lead for good just over 12 minutes later when Habib Sylla scored the game-winning goal. Sylla shot the ball directly into the net off of an 80th-minute free kick from just outside the left side of the penalty area.

Ryan Brooks-Newton finished with four saves to earn the victory for Bridgeport. Pilla made five saves for SCSU in defeat.

The Owls return to action on Wednesday, August 29, when they host Le Moyne at 7:00 p.m. at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn.
