Boxscore

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior forward Larry Yeboah's (Worcester, Mass.) goal in the 81st minute gave the No. 16 Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team a 2-0 lead and would prove to be the difference as they went on to defeat St. Anselm 2-1 on the road in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Saturday afternoon. The victory is the first conference win of the season for SCSU, which improves its record to 2-1-1 (1-0-1 NE-10). With the loss, St. Anselm falls to 0-2-1 (0-1-0 NE-10).

After over 78 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Owls would strike for two goals in a span of 2:37 to take a 2-0 lead. In the 78th minute, freshman forward Mike Fraioli (Norwalk, Conn.) scored unassisted to record his first goal of the season. Shortly after, Yeboah would score on an assist from senior forward Colin Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) to give SCSU all the offense they would need on the afternoon.

St. Anselm would cut the final deficit to one with exactly one minute remaining in regulation. Sam Lamptey was taken down by an SCSU defender inside the box and awarded a penalty kick. Lamptey struck the ball past SCSU sophomore goalkeeper Joe Pilla (Watertown, Conn.) to create the 2-1 final score.

Pilla made four saves to earn the victory in net for the Owls. Scott Johnson made three saves in defeat for St. Anselm.

The Owls return to action on Saturday, Sept. 8 when they host St. Michael's in a Northeast-10 Conference game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn.
