Shane Ogilvie (Regina, Saskatchewan) had two goals and junior midfielder
Djordje Jankovic (Sabac, Serbia) dished out two assists to lead the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 play at Jess Dow Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Owls improve their record to 5-2-2 (4-1-2 NE-10) while Southern New Hampshire falls to 2-3-3 (2-2-1 NE-10) with the loss.
SCSU wasted no time getting the scoring started, as freshman forward
Mike Fraioli (Norwalk, Conn.) struck for his third goal of the season just 60 seconds into the contest. Fraioli got his foot to the ball to tap it in after Jankovic slipped a pass beyond the goalkeeper. The Owls took the 1-0 lead all the way to halftime and held a 6-5 shots advantage at the intermission.
SCSU started quickly again in the second half. This time, Ogilvie found the back of the net just 44 seconds into the stanza. His second goal of the season came off a free kick by Jankovic, who picked up his second assist of the match.
Ogilvie would strike again for his second goal of the match and third tally in the past two games in the 77th minute. Junior midfielder
Tom Mattera (Norwalk, Conn.) stole the ball in the midfield area and fired a through-ball which found Ogilvie in stride to give SCSU a 3-0 lead the would hold the rest of the way. The Owls finished with an 11-8 edge in shots while Southern New Hampshire held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper
Brendan Lawless (Orleans, Mass.) made two saves in net to post his second shutout of the season for SCSU. Dan Pelc made two saves in the Southern New Hampshire goal.
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, September 25 when they host Dominican in their final non-conference game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn.
