Seniors and SCSU Battle St. Michael’s To 0-0 Draw In Double Overtime

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team tied St. Michael's College at Jess Dow Field on Saturday night. On an evening that was dedicated to the careers of the senior athletes, Alicia Purzycki (Guilford, Conn.), Christina Nunes (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Mara Primmer (Oneonta, N.Y.), the Owls fought vigorously, but could not find the game-winner, finalizing a 0-0 draw.

With the tie, Southern improved its record of 8-4-2, 6-3-2 in Northeast-10 competition, while the Purple Knights fell to 6-7-2 overall, 3-5-2 in the league.

In the first half of action, neither team could break the tie score leaving a 0-0 draw at halftime. The Owls controlled much of the possession and a 7-2 advantage in shots.

After halftime, once again both teams struggled offensively and could not find the go-ahead goal, sending the game into overtime. Neither team could get the game-winning goal in overtime, completing a 0-0 tie score.

Katie DiDio (Vernon, Conn.) recorded two saves in the draw for the Owls, while Ashleigh Adams tallied six saves in the tie for the Purple Knights.

For their next match, the Owls will play host to American International College on Oct. 21 at Jess Dow Field. This conference match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
