NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The men's soccer team welcomed No. 4 nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire to Jess Dow Field for a Northeast-10 Conference match on Saturday night. The final score of the contest was 0-0.
With the draw, the Owls improved to 4-4-4, 3-1-4 in Northeast-10 play, while the Penmen's record went to 9-1-2, 5-0-2 in the league.
In the first half of action, neither team could score to break the 0-0 tie. In a very evenly played match, the Owls had their best chance in the 40th minute of play.
Ancil Farrier (Los Bajos, Trinidad) beat a defender down the left side and found
Marino Crocco (North Haven, Conn.) alone in front of the goal. Crocco took a shot that tagged the crossbar and reflected away, ending their attack.
In the second half and overtimes, once again both teams struggled offensively, leading to a final score of 0-0. The Penmen held a slim advantage of 4-3 in the shots on goal category.
Andrew Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) tallied four saves for his fifth shutout of the season for the Owls, while Sean Lambert made three saves for the Penmen.
The Owls will enjoy a week off and return to action on Oct. 11 for a home match against Merrimack College. Game time for this conference match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
