ALBANY, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team was defeated by Northeast-10 Conference opponent Saint Rose (3-0) and Adelphi (3-1) on Saturday afternoon. Junior
Jenna Tammel (Spring Valley, Minn.) totaled a team-high 18 kills on the day.
SCSU is now 21-14 overall and 4-8 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Saint Rose improved to 13-10 and 6-6 in the NE-10. Adelphi is now 25-9 overall.
The Owls and the Golden Knights of Saint Rose squared off for the first match of the day. The first game went back and forth throughout. Tied at 21-21, Saint Rose rallied to score the next four points, defeating the Owls 25-21. The third and final game was very similar as neither team was able to pull away. After SCSU tied the game at 24-24, Saint Rose scored the next two points to end the match.
Tammel (9 kills, 9 digs) led the Owls offensively. Freshman
Leah Filonuk (Greenlawn, N.Y.) tallied 9 kills and 8 digs. Freshman
Andrea Nolan (Ridgefield, N.J.) had a team-high 17 assists and junior
Marcia Hollingsworth (Alexandria, Va.) led the defensive attack with six blocks.
In their second match of the day, the Owls fell early to Adelphi by losing the first two games. They were able to rally behind Tammel and senior
Alliana Lannigan (Selden, N.Y.) in the third game to defeat Adelphi 25-15. However, the Owls lost the fourth and final game by a score of 25-21.
Tammal, Hollingsworth and Lannigan had nine, seven and seven kills respectively. Nolan led the Owls in assists with 14 and junior
Manjit Chase (Alexandria, Va.) added 12. Freshman
Megan Lyons (Cold Spring, N.Y.) led the Owls defensively with 15 digs.
The Owls return home on Tuesday, Nov. 4 against conference opponent Pace. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
