Men’s Basketball Defeated by NYIT

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Junior guard Derrick Corbett (New Haven, Conn.) led all Owls with 18 points but the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team fell to NYIT in its second and final game at the Bridgeport Tournament by the score of 90-49. With the loss, the Owls fall to 0-2 on the season and NYIT improved to 1-1.

The Owls controlled the lead for most of the first half led by the hot hand of Corbett who registered 15 of his 18 points in the first 20 minutes of regulation. However, the Bears took a 31-30 lead with 3:57 remaining in the half and never looked back.

NYIT opened the second half on a 13-0 run. They held onto the momentum the rest of the half and were too much for the Owls, scoring 50 points in the final 20 minutes.

Freshman forward Kieran Ramsey (N. Hollywood, Calif.) recorded his first double-double in only his second career game with the Owls, adding 10 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Chris Harris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the leading assist man for the second consecutive game with five, recording three points as well. Sophomore center John Mazzarella (Wallingford, Conn.) netted seven points and a team-high four blocks.

Bryant Lassiter had a game-high 22 points for NYIT. Joining him in double figures were Mickell Vickers with 15 and Daniel Berg adding14.

The Owls return to the action on Wednesday, Nov. 19 when they travel to Colchester, Vt. for their first Northeast-10 Conference game against Saint Michael's. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Ross Sports Center.
