COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team was defeated by Saint Michael's on Wednesday night in its first Northeast-10 Conference game by a score of 81-73. Senior forward

Kieran Ramsey (N. Hollywood, Calif.) led the Owls with 16 points a piece. With the loss, the Owls are now 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in the NE-10. Saint Michael's is 3-0 and 1-0 in the conference.
The game went back and forth early in the first half until a three by the Purple Knights gave them a 24-22 lead. Despite the Owls scoring 42 points in the half, it wasn't enough as the Purple Knights scored 55 of their 81 points all in the first 20 minutes of regulation.
The Owls defense came out strong in the second half, holding the Purple Knights to zero field goals until 15:44 remaining. SCSU went on an 11-4 run, cutting the lead to six. However, Saint Michael's came right back to go up by 14 with 8:04 remaining, its largest lead of the game. A layup by Ramsey cut the deficit to six with 0:23 remaining but it was too late as Saint Michael's pulled away with a 81-73 win.
Bell was two rebounds shy from a double-double with 16 points and eight rebounds. Ramsey and freshman guard
Chris Harris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) set new career-highs in only their third game with the Owls scoring 16 and 13 points respectively. Harris was also the leading assist man for the third straight game with four. Junior center
John Mazzarella (Wallingford, Conn.) added six points, a team-high 5 blocks and a career-high 15 rebounds.

Derrick Corbett (New Haven, Conn.) added nine points and sophomore guard
Andrew Zito (Windsor, Conn.) netted seven. Sophomore guard
Lance Long (New Haven, Conn.) added six points as well for the Owls.
Chris Hurley from Saint Michael's led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 4-for-7 from behind the arc.
For the game, Southern Connecticut shot 29-for-58 (50%) from the floor, 2-for-8 (25%) from three-point range and 13-for-18 (72.2%) from the free throw line. Saint Michael's also shot 29-for-58 (50%) from the field, 9-for-16 (56.3%) from behind the arc and 14-for-22 (63.6.9%) from the line.
The Owls return to action on Saturday, Nov. 22 when they travel to Albany, N.Y. to face Northeast-10 opponent Saint Rose. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
