Men’s Basketball Falls to Saint Rose, 67-51

ALBANY, N.Y. –Junior center John Mazzarella (Wallingford, Conn.) and freshman forward Kieran Ramsey (N. Hollywood, Calif.) both registered double-doubles on Saturday but the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team fell to Northeast-10 conference opponent Saint Rose by a score of 61-57. The Owls are now 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in the NE-10. Saint Rose got their first win and is now 1-2 and 1-1 in the conference.

Saint Rose came out strong to start the game, going on an 8-2 run. Their biggest lead of the half came with 13:37 remaining when they went up by 12. The Owls kept their composure, however, and went on a run of their own, cutting the margin to four with 4:25 left in the half. The Golden Knights came right back and closed the half on a 9-1 run.

The Golden Knights held a double-digit lead for most of the second half. With help from junior Derrick Corbett (New Haven, Conn.), the Owls remained in the game but the deficit was too much as Saint Rose pulled away at the end, defeating SCSU 67-51.

Mazzarella tied a career-high for the second consecutive game with 15 rebounds. He tallied 10 points as well and was a force down low. Ramsey recorded his second double-double in only his fourth game with the Owls, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds. Corbett scored a team-high 16 points and has now reached double-digits in three of the team's first four games.

Sophomore Andrew Zito (Windsor, Conn.) had seven points off the bench for the Owls. Sophomore Lance Long (New Haven, Conn.) and freshman Chris Harris (Brooklyn, N.Y) lead the team in assists with three a piece.

Jermaine Clark of Saint Rose led all scorers with 18 points. Joining him in double-digits was Evan Lane with 12 and Josh Pelletier adding10.

The Owls return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25 for their home opener against conference opponent Pace. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Moore Field House.
