NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker on Tuesday night to Northeast-10 Conference opponent Stonehill by the score of 62-58. The Owls are now 0-8 overall on the season and 0-6 in the NE-10. Stonehill is now 7-2 and 4-2 in the conference. Junior guard
Derrick Corbett (New Haven, Conn.) led the Owls with a team-high 19 points in the losing effort.
The Skyhawks opened the game on a 10-2 run but the Owls didn't lose their focus and a three-point play by junior guard
Trevor Harris (Nanuet, N.Y.) gave them their first lead with 8:29 remaining in the half. However, Stonehill responded immediately with a lay-up of their own and went into halftime with a 27-23 lead.
SCSU looked like a different team to start the second half. Trailing 31-27, the Owls went on an 18-4 run and grabbed a 10-point lead. The Owls held the momentum for most of the half and a three-pointer by sophomore guard
Lance Long (New Haven, Conn.) gave SCSU their largest lead of the game. Up 12 with 6:16 remaining, the Owls looked poised for their first win of the season.
However, Stonehill's Randall Stallworth went on a scoring clinic by tallying 19 of the Skyhawks final 21 points. Stallworth scored all of his game-high 21 points in the second half to defeat the Owls 62-58.

John Mazzarella (Wallingford, Conn.) and freshman forward
Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) each posted a double-double. Mazzarella recorded 12 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Ramsey added 11 points and 13 boards. Harris tallied nine points and Long dropped seven.
The Owls return to the court on Thursday, Dec. 11 when they compete against cross-town rival New Haven. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Charger Gymnasium.
