ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior forward Kate Lynch (Rumford, R.I.) scored 25 points in the second half and a career-high 38 in the game to lead all scorers on Saturday afternoon, but a comeback effort would fall short as the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team was defeated, 99-83, at St. Rose in Northeast-10 Conference play. Dana Brown led St. Rose with 27 points. With the loss, SCSU falls to 14-12 (10-11 NE-10) while St. Rose improves to 13-13 (8-5 NE-10).

St. Rose opened the game on a 14-4 run, led by a pair of three-pointers from Brown, the second of which triggered an SCSU timeout 3:47 into the contest. Out of the timeout, St. Rose would extend the run to 25-8 with two more buckets from outside the arc by Brown, as well as a three-pointer from Amy Voelkel to trigger another SCSU timeout with 11:35 to play in the stanza. When the half came to a close, St. Rose went into the break with a 54-31 lead. The 54 points were the most given up by SCSU in a half this season and the 23-point halftime deficit was also the largest of the season.

For SCSU, Lynch led the way with 13 points in the opening period. Senior guard Michelle Martinik (Monroe, Conn.) and sophomore forward Jacqueline Johannes (Southbury, Conn.) each grabbed four rebounds for the Owls.

Brown led all scorers in the first half with 21 points on 7-for-11 from the field, including 5-for-9 from behind the arc. Elizabeth Buckley added 17 points for St. Rose in the half while Voelkel led all players with five rebounds and four assists before the break. The Owls would set to work on a comeback attempt in the second half. Early in the half, SCSU would run off eight straight points, including points from three Owls. Then, after the midway point of the half, SCSU would score nine in a row on their way to an 18-2 run to cut the lead to 76-68 with 6:27 to play. During the run, Lynch scored 15 consecutive points for the Owls. However, the deficit was simply too much to overcome, as St. Rose came away with a 99-83 victory.

Lynch led all scorers on the afternoon with 38 points, including 14-for-16 from the foul line. She also led the Owls with eight rebounds. Senior guard Kaylie Schiavetta (Northport, N.Y.) joined Lynch in double figures with 14 points.
