RINDGE, N.H. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team fell to Dominican, 3-0, in its season opener Thursday afternoon at Sodexho Field. The match was the first game of the 2008 Franklin Pierce Labor Day Classic.
The Chargers begin their season 1-0, as the Owls fall to 0-1.
Dominican opened the scoring in the 8th minute, as James Hamilton converted a penalty kick for his first goal of the season.
The Chargers struck again in the 59th minute of action, when Joe Wright scored off an assist from goalkeeper Brandon Heembrock. Later, Edwin Miranda would add another insurance goal in the 89th minute off an assist from Wright.
Andrew Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) tallied three saves in the losing effort.
Southern looks for its first win on Saturday Aug. 30 against the Purple Knights of Bridgeport. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
