NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The SCSU women's soccer team defeated Queens College, 3-0, in its second game of the season Sunday afternoon at Jess Dow Field. Freshman
Jenna Mallico (Milford Conn.) scored the game-winner in the victory.
The Owls continue their season to 2-0 with the win, while the Lady Knights fall to 0-1.
In the first half of play, SCSU controlled much of the possession and held an eight to two shots advantage. After 34 minutes of play, the Owls were able to break the tie score.
Gina DellaRosa (Prospect, Conn.) crossed a ball to the middle where
Katrina Cook (Westtown N.Y.) passed the ball back to Mallico, who placed the ball perfectly into the side netting for her first goal of the season.
The second half was similar to the first half of play. In the 66th minute, DellaRosa scored Southern's second goal of the game off an assist from Mallico. Cook added another insurance goal in the 71st minute off another assist from Mallico.
Mallico totaled four points on the day with her goal and two assists.

Katie DiDio (Vernon Conn.) made two saves, to complete her second shutout of the season.
SCSU goes for its third win in a row on Sept. 9 at Saint Rose. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
