NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The men's soccer team battled Post University for their first win of the season Wednesday night at Jess Dow Field. The final score of this conference match was 3-0.

The Owls get their first win and improve to (1-2), while the Eagles fall to (1-1).

SCSU controlled much of the action in the first half. In the 28th minute of play, the Owls scored the games first goal to take a 1-0 lead. Freshman Germain Delage crossed the ball to the middle of the penalty area, where sophomore Paul Templeton (Saltcoats, Scotland) deflected the ball towards the goal. The Eagles goalkeeper, Dan Nadel made the initial save, however a composed Templeton placed the rebound into the bottom right hand corner of the goal for his first goal of the season.

In the second half of action, the Owls continued their dominate play. In the 53rd minute, substitution Patrick Carroll (Guilford, Conn.) was able to find the back of the net off a header from Djordje Jankovic's (Sabac, Serbia) cross making it a two goal margin.

Templeton was back at it again in the 69th minute, when he placed a freekick perfectly into the top corner of the goal. This insurance was all Southern's defense needed, completing a 3-0 shutout.

Andrew Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) made four saves for his first clean sheet of the season. Nadel tallied two saves in the loss for Post.

Southern looks for its second win in a row on Sept. 6 against the University of New Haven at Jess Dow Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
