A LOOK AHEAD
The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team (1-18, 0-14 NE-10) gets some much needed rest this week after coming off a three-game skid in five days. The Owls will travel to New York, N.Y. on Wednesday, Jan. 28 for their only contest of the week versus Pace. Wednesday's match-up marks the second time these teams met this season as the Pace Setters got the better end of the deal at Moore Field House, as they pulled away with a 70-69 victory. Tip-off for Wednesday's night game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Goldstein Fitness Center.

FIRST MEETING
Earlier this season, the Owls played host to the Pace Setters at Moore Field House on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008. With 12 seconds remaining in the game, Ryan Woods went to the line and hit both foul shots to give his team the win, 70-69. Despite only six players suited for the Owls, the team played extremely well and had a chance to win but their final shot fell short and Pace regained the possession. Junior John Mazzarella and freshman Kieran Ramsey led the Owls as they both posted double-doubles. Mazzarella dropped a career-high 20 points and Ramsey posted season-highs in points (17) and rebounds (17). Southern seeks revenge as they hope to knock off Pace in their own gymnasium on Wednesday night. Pace marks an overall record of 6-12 and 4-9 in the conference; however they are losers of seven straight. They are led by freshman guard Adrian Mills as he averages a team-high 14.1 points per game.

COMING UP SHORT
Last week the Owls traveled to Felician College for a non-conference road game on Thursday night. Down by four with 23 seconds remaining in the second half, junior Derrick Corbett entered the game and gave the Owls the spark they needed. Corbett came off the bench and hit a lay-up right away to cut the margin to two. The Owls then sent Ethan Kennedy to the line as he went 1-for-2 to give Felician a 79-76 lead with seven seconds left. Southern went right back to Corbett as he nailed one from downtown with one second remaining, lifting his team into overtime. In the OT, Corbett dropped another three and the Owls looked as if they were headed toward victory. However, Felician responded by hitting back-to-back three's to tie the game at 86. The Owls had a chance to end the game but a missed lay-up followed by a defensive rebound and a foul, sent Richard Fegins to the line with half a second remaining. He hit one of two foul shots as the Owls left New Jersey with a devastating loss, 87-86. Despite falling short, the Owls showed improvement as their 86 points was their highest scoring output of the season.

OWLS ON THE HONOR ROLL
Junior center John Mazzarella has earned recognition on the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll twice this season. He was selected to the weekly honor roll on Dec. 1 for his performance against Pace and Dec. 15 for his performances against Stonehill and New Haven.
