NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior guard
Terron Jones (Bridgeport, Conn.) led all Owls with 16 points but the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team lost a Northeast-10 conference game to AIC on Tuesday night by the score of 61-45. The Owls have dropped to 1-11 overall and 0-9 in the conference. AIC is now 8-5 overall and 5-4 in the NE-10.
The first half went back and forth throughout the first twenty minutes of regulation. Jones dropped 10 of his 16 points in the first half and went 6-for-8 from the line. However, the Owls trailed heading into halftime, 26-24.
Southern kept the game close for the majority of the second half until AIC pulled away with the lead after a jumper by Isiah Wallace put the Yellow Jackets up nine with 6:37 remaining. A steal by sophomore guard
Lance Long (New Haven, Conn.) followed by a lay-up by senior forward
Preston Bell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) gave the Owls hope but Wallace was too much for the Owls to handle. He dropped 12 of his 21 points in the final twenty minutes and helped AIC defeat the Owls, 61-45.
Terron Jones also had a team-high eight rebounds. Joining him in double-digits was Bell with 11 followed by junior center
John Mazzarella (Wallingford, Conn.) with eight. Freshman guard
Chris Harris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the leading assist man with three.
Up next for the Owls is NE-10 opponent Southern New Hampshire. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8 at Moore Field House.
