Late Second Half Surge Propels Men’s Soccer At Bentley, 2-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Harry Appiah (Pawtucket, R.I.) registered the game-winning goal in the 87th minute of action, as the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team defeated Bentley, 2-0 at Falcons Field in Waltham, Mass. Two late goals proved to be the difference, improving Southern's overall mark to 8-3-1, 5-2-1 in Northeast-10 Conference competition.

Through the first 86 minutes of play, neither team was able to muster an attack that resulted into a goal. However in the 87th minute, Appiah's blast from 15 yards out put the Owls in front, 1-0 with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.

Southern controlled much of the possession, evidenced by its 7-2 advantage in corner kicks and 10-5 advantage in shots.

With 23 seconds left in the game, an error in the Falcons backfield produced another goal for the Owls. The final score was 2-0, bringing Southern into a two-way tie for fourth place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings with Bentley.

Owl goalkeeper Chris Rybacki (Putnam, Conn.) did not need to register a save in his third shutout of the campaign, while Michael Nikiforov made five stops for the hosting Falcons.

The Owls are back in action on Oct. 14 when they play host to LeMoyne at Jess Dow Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
