SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior
Danielle MacMurray (Griswold, Conn.) scored her team leading sixth goal of the season, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss to Le Moyne at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon. Le Moyne netted the game-winner in the 102nd minute of action, propelling the Dolphins to their fourth overtime win of the campaign.
With the loss, the Owls dropped to 7-7, 4-7 in Northeast-10 Conference competition, while the Dolphins improved to 9-4-2, 6-4-2 in the league.
After 45 minutes of scoreless soccer in the first half, MacMurray and the Owls opened in the scoring just 13:53 into the second period. The senior forward calmly collected a rebound inside the penalty area and buried a shot into the lower right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.
However, Le Moyne would answer back with the equalizer a mere 13 minutes later. Jennifer Fabian received a pass from Gabriele Ariola and found the back of the net from 12-yards out, knotting the game up at one.
At the end of regulation, Le Moyne and SCSU were all square at one apiece.
In the second overtime, Fabian played a ball down the left side of the field to Christie Morano who broke through the Owls' defense. Morano placed a shot into the upper right corner of the goal for the emphatic, 2-1 victory in Syracuse, N.Y.
