SCSU Women's Soccer Defeats Georgian Court, 3-0, For First Win Of 2025

NEW HAVEN, CONN.--Southern Connecticut women's soccer defeated Georgian Court, 3-0, in a non-conference game at Jess Dow Field on Monday night. With the win, the Owls improve to 1-0-1 on the season, while The Georgian Court Lions dropped to 0-2. 


Gracie Sanders, Bella LaPerle and Nicky Deslauriers all scored their first goals of the season for the Owls, while Sanders scored the first goal of her career. Ryliegh Phillips added an assist. Abby Aughe made four saves in goal for her second shutout in a row. 

After a quiet start, Sanders got things going for the Owls in the 36th minute off of a  rebound following a save by Georgian Court goalkeeper Brooke McKown. Sanders received the ball at the top of the box and immediately fired back toward the middle of the goal for the score. 

The Owls late first-half heroics would not stop there. With 15 seconds to go in the half, LaPerle scored to expand the lead to 2-0. 

After the two first half goals, the Owls offense went quiet until the 70th minute when Nicky Deslauriers was fouled inside the box, award the Owls' junior a penalty kick. One-on-one with the keeper, Deslauriers put the ball past the diving netminder for the Owls' third goal of the night to secure the 3-0 win. 

Southern Connecticut is back in action on Friday Sept. 12 when they travel to Garden City, New York to face Adelphi University in a Northeast 10 Connference match-up at 6:00pm.
