NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior quarterback Chris Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) completed 19-of-26 passes for 267 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Southern Connecticut State University football team to a 42-14 win over Stonehill on Homecoming. 
Southern Connecticut improved to 5-3, 5-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play with the win. Stonehill is 2-5, 1-4 in league action. 
It was the 150th career victory for Owls' coach Rich Cavanaugh. 
The Skyhawks struck first just 2:47 into the game, when Jareed Gaines scooped up an Owls' fumble and took it 30 yards back the other way for a touchdown. Following the PAT, Stonehill led 7-0. 
Southern Connecticut answered by scoring the next 28 points of the game, 21 of which came before halftime. 
The Owls tied the game at 7-7 when Roberts found Andre Privott (Middletown, Conn.) a four-yard pass that closed a seven play, 55-yard drive. Christopher Hazelton (Bristol, Conn.) added the point after touchdown to make it 7-7. 
Later in the opening quarter, Roberts connected with Pete DiGangi (Cheshire, Conn.) on an eight-yard strike over the middle to put the hosts in front for good. Hazelton added the PAT for a 14-7 lead. 
Southern Connecticut scored once more before the intermission. This time, Roberts hooked up with Timothy Wells (Abington, Mass.) on a nine-yard pass that extended the lead to 21-7 after the PAT. 
The Owls scored the only touchdown of the third quarter, that coming on a one-yard run from John Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) that ended a five-play, 62 yard drive. 
Stonehill cut the deficit to 28-14 early in the fourth quarter, but SCSU responded by scoring the final 14 points of the game. 
Roberts threw his fourth touchdown pass of the day and second to Privott when the two connected on a 50-yard strike. 
Rashaad Slowley (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with a one-yard run later in the fourth for a 42-14 final. 
Wiechman led the ground attack with 137 yards on 11 carries. Slowley had 97 yards on 13 carries. 
Privott tallied a career-high 134 yards on six catches. DiGangi also had six catches and tallied 56 yards receiving. 
Jerome Pinckney (Ellenwood, Ga.) had 10 tackles and a sack to lead the defensive effort. 
Southern Connecticut has next week off before hosting Merrimack on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
