SCSU Football Places Seven On Academic All-District Team Presented By College Sports Communicators

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut football placed seven student-athletes on the 2025 Football Academic All-District team presented by College Sports Communicators. To gain eligibility, student-athletes must post a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and start in 90% of their team's games.

Dom Barbuto, Cooper Dayton, Luke Gagnon, Joseph Garbowski, James Griffiths, Dan Schwartz and Michael Strachan all earned the 2025 honor.

Barbuto posted a 3.57 grade-point average while pursuing his master's in business administration. This season, he totaled 39 tackles and also had one interception.

Dayton registered a 3.70 GPA while majoring in physical education. This season, he finished with 36 tackles, including two for a loss and one sack.

Luke Gagnon posted a 3.50 GPA and is completing a degree in sport and entertainment management. Gagnon suited up in all 10 games for the Owls this season.

Joe Garbowski posted a 3.73 GPA while majoring in exercise science. Garbowski had 23 tackles for the year with four for a loss including two sacks. Garbowski also forced one fumble.

Griffiths was selected for the second time in his career after being honored on the 2023 team. The fourth-year Owl had 12 catches for 80 yards. He carries a 3.60 GPA with a bachelor's degree in nursing. He is currently pursuing his master's degree in healthcare studies.

Schwartz started nine games for the Owls on the offensive line while posting a 3.50 grade-point average.

Strachan was honored in 2023 as well. He currently boasts a 3.55 GPA while majoring in nursing. Strachan had 10 catches for 108 yards and was a NE10 All-Conference and Academic All-Conference selection in 2024.
