WORCESTER, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team claimed its seventh Northeast-10 victory on Wednesday night, defeating Assumption in three sets. Freshman
Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas) led an offense that connected on .330 percent of its attacks, as she dished out a game-high 21 assists.
With the win, the Owls are now 19-6 overall and 7-5 in the conference. The Greyhounds fall to 1-16 and 0-10 in the NE-10.
Southern took the first set with ease, defeating Assumption 25-9 to take a 1-0 lead. They set the tone early by scoring seven straight points to go ahead 9-2. Of the team's 25 points, 16 came from kills as the Owls composed a .467 hitting percentage.
The momentum from set one carried over as Southern claimed sets two and three by the scores of 25-20 each.
Senior
Nekane Mendizabal (Stratford, Conn.) led the Owls with a game-high 10 kills. Senior
Jenna Tammel (Spring Valley, Minn.) tallied seven kills and 15 digs and freshman
Vanessa Sullivan (Paramus, N.J.) led the defensive effort with a game-high 16 digs.
The Owls return to action on Saturday as they travel to Bloomfield, N.J. to compete in a double-header against Philadelphia (2 p.m.) and Bloomfield (4 p.m.).
