WATERBURY, Conn. - Southern Connecticut volleyball was defeated by Post, 3-0, in a non-conference matchup on Thursday night. The Eagles improved to an overall record of 17-3 while the Owls dropped to an overall record of 12-5.
Sydney Bennett led the Owls with 10 kills while
Kerrigan Habing had six and
Victoria Pascual had three kills.
Sarah Henault had a team-best of 13 digs,
Kerrigan Habing had six digs and
Kimi Mitchell had five of her own.
Sarah Henault also had a team-best of two service aces and
Emily Sartell had an ace.
Sarah Stark had a team-best of three blocks,
Ceci Carter and
Kerrigan Habing both added a block.
Kimi Mitchell had a team-best of 20 assists and
Victoria Pascual had two assists against the Eagles.
In the first set, it was a close back and forth between the two teams. The battle continued on late into the set, as the Owls got within one point of the Eagles; however, Post held on to take the first set. In the second set, kills by
Kerrigan Habing,
Sarah Stark and
Kimi Mitchell got the scoring going for Southern. After that, the Eagles took control of the momentum and won the second set.
In the third set, the Owls looked to make a comeback as attack and service errors by the Eagles, helped tie the score at 5-5. Post put points on the board; nevertheless, Southern stayed with them as they would go on to tie the score two more times. Despite the Owls' efforts, the Eagles won the third set and got the victory over the Owls.
The Owls will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 6:00 p.m. in Rindge, NH for a NE10 matchup against Franklin Pierce. The Owls will return home to Pelz Gym on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 12:00 p.m. in an NE10 matchup against Southern New Hampshire.
