WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team dropped a season and game-high 31 points on 10-for-17 shooting Tuesday night, however the Owls were defeated by Assumption at Laska Gymnasium, 95-72.
Southern is now 1-8 overall and 1-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Assumption improved to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the NE-10.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a large lead early in the half and the momentum would remain on Assumption's side as they took a 46-32 lead heading into halftime. Despite shooting 50% from the floor, the Owls also gave up 50% shooting to their opponent.
Carberry lead all scorers at the break with 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting. Mike Baldarelli dropped 11 points for Assumption as he went 3-for-4 from behind-the-arc.
The Owls couldn't cool off the hot hands of the Greyhounds as they continued to make their shots in the second half. Assumption completed the game with a 48% field goal percentage, including seven baskets from downtown to claim the victory.
Carberry finished with 31 points on 10-for-17 from the floor and 8-for-9 from the line. Sophomore Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) and junior Dexton Williamson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded double-digit points with 11 and 10 respectively. Ramsey also grabbed 10 boards to notch the double-double and sophomore Chris Harris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) dished out a team-high six assists.
The Owls return to action on Dec. 22 with an away game against Southern New Hampshire. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Manchester, N.H.
