Men’s Basketball Drops Northeast-10 Home Game to Stonehill

Ramsey dropped eight points and grabbed eight boards against Stonehill on Saturday.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team was defeated at Moore Field House on Saturday afternoon to Northeast-10 opponent Stonehill, 70-50. Freshman Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood,Calif.) led the Owls in points (8) and rebounds (8). Stonehill's A.J. Rudowitz had a game-high 16 points.

Southern is now 2-22 overall and 1-18 in the NE-10. Stonehill remains one of the top teams in the NE-10 with an 18-6 overall mark and 13-6 in the conference.

The Skyhawks jumped out to an early 15-7 lead with 13:59 remaining and never looked back. For the next five and a half minutes they increasingly built their lead until the 8:22 mark. Down 29-13, the Owls went on a run of their own as they scored the next 8 baskets within three minutes to cut the lead to eight. However, the deficit was too much as Southern trailed 39-27 at halftime.

Rudowitz led his team at the break with 12 first half points. Junior Derrick Corbett (New Haven, Conn.) dropped seven for the Owls.

The second half was all Skyhawks as they continued to increase their lead and defeat the Owls, 70-50. Joining Rudowitz in double-digits was Matt Hall and Mike Kernan.

Senior guard Terron Jones (Bridgeport, Conn.) dropped eight points and grabbed six boards. He was a perfect 6-for-6 from the line. Freshman guard Chris Harris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the leading assist man with three. He netted six points and four rebounds as well.

The Owls return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 18 as they face Bentley for the second time this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Moore Field House.
