NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Student-athletes from eight teams at Southern Connecticut State University took part in the eighth annual Comcast Cares Day earlier today at Edgewood Park in New Haven. This event, which corresponds with the NCAA Division II community engagement initiative, allowed SCSU student-athletes to assist with the beautification of one of the finest parks in the state. The Owls joined more than 4,300 Comcast employees and their families in cleanup efforts across over 50 different sites in New England. Members of the Owls' football, gymnastics, men's swimming and diving, women's basketball, women's cross country/track and field and women's swimming and diving teams were alongside to lend support to an outstanding cause.

“Comcast is proud to be an active member of the New Haven community, and Comcast Cares Day is our commitment to improving the quality of life in communities we serve,” said Michael Parker, Vice President for Comcast in Connecticut. “There is nothing more rewarding than giving back, and I'm grateful to the 600 Comcast Cares Day volunteers in Connecticut who donated their time to help make such a big difference today.”

Since the first Comcast Cares Day took place in 2001, 170,000 volunteers have devoted over 1 million hours of service to communities across the country. On Saturday, 50,000 additional volunteers donated another 300,000 hours of service at more than 500 projects in 39 states and the District of Columbia, bringing the total service hours during all Comcast Cares Days to more than 1.3 million. Comcast Cares Day is one way that Comcast helps to power dreams and demonstrate a year-round commitment to making a difference in the communities it serves.

In Connecticut, Comcast volunteers also worked at the following sites:
- Burns Elementary School in Hartford – installing the City's first “Born Learning Trail”
- Katie Blair House in Norwich – painting and outside landscaping
- Camp Ingersoll in Portland - outdoor landscaping, rebuilding and painting
- French Memorial Park in Seymour – landscaping, painting, and refurbishing park's baseball diamond

Comcast serves more than 550,000 customers in 83 Connecticut communities and employs 1,300 individuals in the state.
