SCSU Women's Cross Country Sweeps NE10 Weekly Awards

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Southern Connecticut State University women's cross country swept the Northeast 10 Conference weekly honors, as freshman Michelle Blackburn was named NE10 Rookie of the Week and junior Erin Sola was named NE10 Runner of the Week, as announced by the NE10 on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026.

The Owls opened the 2026 season with a second-place finish at the University of Hartford XC Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12, scoring 41 points.

Sola led the way for Southern, finishing fifth overall in the women's 3K with a time of 10:55.0. The junior was the top non-UConn finisher, helping lead the Owls to their runner-up team finish.

Blackburn made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, placing 11th overall in 11:25.1 and serving as the fifth scorer for Southern. Her performance helped the Owls secure the second-place finish, while also establishing a 3K collegiate best of 11:25.1.

The weekly honors mark the first NE10 awards of the season for both Owls. Blackburn becomes the first SCSU freshman to earn NE10 Rookie of the Week honors this season, while Sola earns Runner of the Week recognition after helping lead the Owls in their season-opening performance.

Southern Connecticut returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
