Southern Falls to New Haven in Northeast-10 Play, 63-58

The Owls dropped a Northeast-10 game to New Haven on Saturday.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman guard Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) dropped 19 points on Saturday but the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team fell to cross-town rival New Haven, 63-58 at Moore Field House. Southern is now 2-10 overall and 1-6 in the Northeast-10 while New Haven clinched its first victory and is now 1-10 overall and 1-6 in the conference.

The first half was all New Haven as they out shot the Owls from the floor, 55% to 30%. They were led by Darryl Greene's 13 points as they took a 41-26 lead heading into halftime. Graduate forward Clyde Chapman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Tobin Carberry recorded six each for the Owls.

Southern cut the deficit to three with a little over a minute to play in the game, their smallest margin since the 11:58 mark in the first half. However, the Chargers hit their foul shots when it counted and put the game out of reach as they claimed a 63-58 victory.

Chapman added a double-digit performance with 10 points, seven rebounds and a team-high three assists. Junior Dexton Williamson (Bridgeport, Conn.) also grabbed seven boards and guards Lance Long (New Haven, Conn.) and Chris Harris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched six points each.

The Owls return to Moore Field House on Wednesday, January 6 to host Stonehill in a Northeast-10 match-up. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
