Carberry Drops 30; Owls Fall On The Road To Saint Anselm

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman guard Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) scored 30 points on Wednesday night, however the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team lost to Saint Anselm, 74-53. Carberry went 11-for-21 from the floor and 4-of-8 from behind-the-arc. He also scored the first 17 points for the Owls.

With the loss, the Owls have fallen to 2-15 overall and 1-11 in the Northeast-10. Saint Anselm improved to 11-6 overall and 7-5 in the conference.

The game went back and forth early in the first half as the teams were tied at 8-8 with 14:02 remaining. However, a lay-up by Quinn Woodhouse started a 9-0 run by the Hawks as they pulled away momentarily. The moment remained in their favor for the next eight and a half minutes until the Owls were able to cut the deficit to nine at the half as they trailed 33-24.

Carberry single handedly kept the Owls within reach as he scored 17 straight points and 19 of the Owls 24 at the break. Hakeem Williams and Pat Luptowski led Saint Anselm with seven and six points respectively as they shot a combined 5-of-10 from the floor.

The second half was all Hawks. They came out hot and pulled away behind the play of Greg Vetrano and Oliver Hunter to claim a 75-53 victory.

Carberry led all scorers with 30 points as he hit four from downtown and 4-for-4 from the line. Graduate forward Clyde Chapman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added double-digits with 11 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Hunter led the Hawks with 15 points and Vetrano and Williams scored 13 each.

The Owls return to Moore Field House on Saturday as they host Southern New Hampshire for a 3:30 p.m. tip-off following the women's game.
