NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior
Dexton Williamson (Bridgeport, Conn.) recorded his third double-double in four games, however the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team lost to Southern New Hampshire at home, 73-52 on Saturday afternoon. Williamson recorded 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting and added a game-high 13 rebounds.
Southern is now 2-16 overall and 1-12 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Southern New Hampshire is improved to 11-7 overall and 6-7 in the conference.
The first half was all Penmen right from the beginning as they jumped out to an early 13-4 lead within the first four minutes. The momentum remained in their favor the remainder of the half as they entered the locker room up 40-23 at the break.
The halftime deficit proved too much for the Owls to overcome. The Penmen outscored Southern 33-29 in the final twenty minutes of regulation as they pulled away with a 73-52 win.
Graduate forward
Clyde Chapman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a game-high 18 points for the Owls and grabbed eight rebounds. Chapman and Williamson also dished out team-highs in assists with three each. Freshman guard
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) joined them in double-digit scoring with 10 points.
As a team, the Owls recorded a total of seven blocks. Freshmen forwards
Brandon Ennis (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) and
Ante Cosic (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) and also
Dexton Williamson all notched two blocks each.
The Owls return to the court on January 26 as they head to Merrimack for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
