Box Score

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The top-scoring offense in the Northeast-10 Conference was too much for the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team to handle Tuesday night as they fell to Merrimack, 81-51. Graduate forward Clyde Chapman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a team-high 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Owls.

With the loss, Southern is now 2-17 overall and 1-13 in the Northeast-10 while Merrimack improved to 13-4 overall and 11-3 in conference play.

The Owls jumped out quickly to a 6-2 lead but it was all Merrimack the rest of the way. The Warriors would go up 41-21 before junior guard Lance Long (New Haven, Conn.) hit a three from downtown to end the half.

Merrimack hit 45.5% of their shots in the first twenty minutes of regulation and held Southern to just 32.1%. They also shot a perfect 10-of-10 from the line and were led by Darren Duncan's team-high 15 points. Chapman led Southern with eight points and sophomore forward Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) added six at the break.

The Warriors hot hand carried over into the second half. Southern did not have an answer for Merrimack's Duncan, who dropped a game-high 25 points to lead his team to an 81-51 victory.

Ramsey joined Chapman in double-digits with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

The Owls return to Moore Field House on Saturday, Jan. 30 for their next contest against UMass-Lowell. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
