With the win, Southern improved to 10-9, 7-7 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Merrimack dropped to 7-12, 5-8 in the league.

After falling behind 15-5 through the first five minutes of play, the Owls turned it around behind the hot hand of Allyson Smith. Merrimack battled back with a quick spurt, but Southern's 1-3-1 defense was too much for the hosting Warriors. The Owls connected on their free-throws in the closing minutes, leading to a 70-51 victory.
