Owls Power Past Assumption In Volleyball Action, 3-0

Megan Lyons had a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs on Wednesday.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Sarah Beres (Ellington, Conn.) had a game-high 17 kills, while junior Megan Lyons (Cold Spring, N.Y.) posted a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs to lead the Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Assumption on Wednesday night. The Owls took the contest by scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-22.

Southern Connecticut improved to 12-10, 5-5 in Northeast-10 Conference play with the win. Assumption is now 9-20, 0-11.

The Owls scored eight of the first 10 points in game one and never let up. Southern led by as many as 12 points during the course of the opening frame and concluded with a 10-point win.

The second game was a closer affair. However, the Owls trailed only once, at 4-3. From there, SCSU went on to score seven of the next 10 points to take a 10-6 lead. While the Greyhounds were able to keep it close, the Owls remained consistent and held on for the three point win.

Game three saw Assumption score the first three points, only for the Owls to score three in a row. It was just a sign of things to come, as there were 12 ties in all in the final game. However, with the game tied at 2-2, SCSU scored the final three points to secure the win.

Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas) had a game-high 46 assists to lead the Owls. Vanessa Sullivan (Paramus, N.J.) led the way with 26 digs. Lauren McVey (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) also reached double digits with 11 digs.

The Owls are back in action on Friday at Pace.
