Men’s Basketball Rolls Past Chestnut Hill, 77-57

Kieran Ramsey had a game-high 23 points and nine boards in the Owls' season opening win.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Junior forward Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team to a season-opening win over Chestnut Hill on Saturday, 77-57.

It was a game that, aside from one instance in the opening minutes, the Owls led from start to finish. Trailing 3-2 in the early going, SCSU scored five straight points and never trailed again.

Southern Connecticut led by as many as 10 in the first half, that coming on two occasions.

Leading 38-28 at the intermission, the Owls scored 13 of the first 15 points of the second half to take full control of the contest at 51-32. Dexton Williamson (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied six points during the run for the Owls.

Chestnut Hill closed the gap to 12 at 51-39 thanks to a quick 7-0 spurt, but Southern Connecticut put the game away with a 15-3 run that pushed its lead to 24 at 66-42.

Williamson finished with 16 points, while freshman Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) add a dozen in his first collegiate outing.

Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks in his Owls' debut.

The triumph made a winner of Owls' coach Michael Donnelly in his debut on the sideline.

SCSU is back in action tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. when it takes on Bridgeport at the UB Tournament.
