Men’s Basketball Edged By AIC, 82-73

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore forward Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior forward Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) each tallied 14 points, but the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team dropped an 82-73 decision to American International on Sunday afternoon.

The Owls move to 4-1, 2-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play with the setback. AIC is now 4-2, 2-1.

While Southern has enjoyed several quick starts early in its contests, AIC turned the tables on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets scored 14 of the first 17 points. However, the Owls used a 13-2 run of their own to tie the score at 16-16 with 11:30 to play in the opening half.

AIC countered with an 8-0 spurt to take a 24-16 advantage and led by as many as 14 points. SCSU ended the half on a 9-2 run, though, to close the gap to 42-35 at halftime.

In the second half, the Owls got as close as five points at 50-45 with 14:14 remaining. It was just a six point game at 57-51 with 11:06 to go before AIC went on an 11-0 run to seize control for good.

Ramsey pulled down eight boards, while Hamlet added six to go with their 14 points. Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) also reached double digits with 10 points.

Lance Long (New Haven, Conn.) chipped in eight points, while Dexton Williamson (Bridgeport, Conn.) had seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.

SCSU is back in action on Wednesday night when it travels to Adelphi.
