NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore forward Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered his second consecutive double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but a late rally by the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team fell just short on Saturday in a 70-63 loss to Southern New Hampshire.

The Owls are now 7-2 overall, while the Penmen move to 4-5. Saturday's game was considered a non-league matchup.

Southern New Hampshire used a quick start to maintain control of the contest. The Penmen were up 20-10 at the midway point of the half and led by as many as 21 in the opening stanza at 35-14.

However, the Owls used a 12-2 run to close the half – capped by a three-pointer from Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) at the buzzer – to climb with 11 at the break, 37-26.

The Owls came out of the break with a 16-8 run to get within five, 47-42, with 12:50 left to play. The SNHU lead would remain in single digits the rest of the way.

Southern Connecticut closed to within three points on two occasions, the last occurrence coming with 1:15 remaining. However, SNHU scored six of the final eight points to make it a seven-point final margin of victory.

Langston also finished with 14 points in the contest, while Nyheem Sanders (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored 13 for the Owls. Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) tallied seven points and nine boards, while Ante Cosic (Brampton, Ontario) finished with eight points and six rebounds.

The Owls will now break for final exams and the holidays and return to action on Dec. 30 for a home game against St. Thomas Aquinas.
