ALBANY, N.Y. - Junior guard Alex Fiola (Fall River, Mass.) scored a team-high 22 points, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team dropped a 71-56 decision at Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls are now 3-4, 1-4 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Saint Rose is 6-2, 3-2.
Senior guard Ashley Rath (Victor, N.Y.) led all scorers with 29 points, going 11-19 in the field plus six threes 6-10 also grabbing four rebounds. Senoir Amy Voelkel (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) added six points hauling in 12 rebounds.
Fiola scored team high 22 points while sophomore Camille Fantini (Andover, Mass.) and junior Sylvonya Moore (Stockton, Calif.) each added eight points. Senior Shelley Pierson (Watervliet, N.Y.) contributed seven points grabbing 14 boards in the game.
The Golden Knights had a three point lead going into half time, but not before the lead changed seven times before the buzzer. The 36-33 half time score broke open in the second half as Saint Rose took control of the game. Rath's 19 points in the second half put the Golden Knights ahead of the Owls by 17 points at one point.
The Owls look to bounce back on Dec. 7 as they host the Greyhounds of Assumption College at Moore Field House. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
