NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) recorded a double-double with a team-high 15 points and season-high 12 rebounds on Saturday, however Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team lost a Northeast-10 Conference match-up to AIC by the score of 72-58. After a close first half, the Yellow Jackets pulled away in the final twenty minutes of regulation to claim the win.
Southern is now 2-22 overall and 1-17 in the conference. With the win, AIC improved to 11-13 and 9-10 in the NE-10.
Andrew Zito (Windsor, Conn.) connected on a three-pointer early on to give the Owls a 7-4 lead with 17:30 remaining in the half. The shot sparked a six minute lead for Southern but they weren't able to pull away. A lay-up by the Yellow Jackets at the 9:38 mark gave them their first lead of the game and they would go on to take a 32-30 lead at the break.
The second half was all AIC. They came out strong and grabbed a quick nine point lead within the first five minutes of play. The Yellow Jackets continued to build their lead throughout the half as they pulled away, 72-58.
Despite just hitting three from behind-the-arc, AIC shot 50% from the floor during the game compared to Southern's 40%. The Yellow Jackets won the game from the foul line. They went to the charity stripe 33 times, hitting 23 of their shots. The Owls only got the line six times.
Ramsey went 7-of-13 from the floor to lead all scorers for the Owls. Joining him in double-digits was
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) with 11 and
Andrew Zito and
Clyde Chapman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored nine points each.
Chris Harris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) dished out a team-high four assists.
The Owls return to the court on February 17 as they head to Adelphi. Tip-off is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
