GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The second meeting between the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team and Adelphi University did not bode as well for the Owls as they lost by a score of 62-45. Southern handed Adelphi its first loss of the season the first time these teams met but tonight's contest was a different story. Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) dropped a team-high 21 points and dished out a team-high three assists in the losing effort.

Southern has fallen to 2-23 overall and 1-18 in the conference with the loss as Adelphi improved to 18-9 and 11-9 in the NE-10.

The Owls jumped out quickly in the first half as they took a 5-0 lead and held the Panthers scoreless for two minutes. However, Adelphi went on a 14-0 run over the next five minutes and it was all Panthers the rest of the way. They took a commanding 36-19 lead heading into halftime.

The final twenty minutes of regulation featured a more competitive half as Southern would eventually cut the deficit to single-digits with 2:37 remaining. It wouldn't be enough time for the Owls though as Adelphi pulled away to claim a 62-45 victory.

Carberry posted 21 points on 7-of-16 shooting to lead the Owls in scoring for the 18th time this season. Clyde Chapman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) controlled the glass, pulling in a season-high 12 rebounds and Andrew Zito (Windsor, Conn.) had two from behind-the-arc to add eight points.

The Owls head back to New York on Saturday, Feb. 20 for their final road contest of the season against Saint Rose. Game time is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
