Clyde Chapman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a game-high 20 points in his final game at Moore Field House, however the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team lost to Assumption on 'Senior Night,' 85-71. Chapman hit 6-of-13 from the floor and 8-of-11 from the line, he also dished out a team- and season-high five assists.
With the loss, Southern finishes the season 2-25 overall and 1-21 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Assumption is now 13-14 overall and 10-12 in conference play.
Assumption controlled a lead for the majority of the first half behind strong three-point shooting. They shot 5-of-8 (62.5%) from behind-the-arc and went 15-of-27 (55.6%) from the floor. The Owls shot well from the field as well, hitting 50% of their shots but it wasn't enough as they trailed at the break, 42-31.
The Greyhounds came out strong once again in the second half and jumped out to a large lead with 8:30 remaining. Southern managed to the cut the deficit significantly but the margin was too much to overcome as the Owls fell 85-71.
Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) and
Lance Long (Hamden, Conn.) joined Chapman in double-digits with 13 and 11 points respectively. Ramsey notched a double-double as he grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds as well.
John Mazzarella (Wallingford, Conn.) scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds in his final game as an Owl.
