NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A four-run eighth inning by the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team helped the Owls clinch their fifth straight victory on Wednesday as they defeated Saint Rose by the score of 6-4.
Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) led a Southern offense that totaled 15 hits as he went 3-for-5 from the plate including a two RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 4-4. With the win, the Owls are now 11-5-1 overall and 5-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Saint Rose drops to 5-14 overall and 1-4 in the NE-10.
The Golden Knights got on the board first and took a 1-0 lead after one but Southern would come right back in the bottom of the third to score two runs on three hits.
Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) led off with a double to right field and would advance to third on a single by #A.J. Rouleau# (Westborough, Mass.). The next batter,
Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.), drove in Geffert to tie the game and put Rouleau in scoring position with a single to left field. Rouleau would later score on a sacrifice fly by
Jordan Hockenberry (Glastonbury, Conn.) to put the Owls ahead, 2-1.
Saint Rose retaliated by scoring three runs in the top of the fourth, putting the pressure on Southern.
After four scoreless innings and trailing by two, the Owls got the bats going in the bottom of the eighth. Back-to-back singles by
Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) and Hockenberry, followed by a hit-by-pitch, put the bases loaded for Rosadino as he stepped to the plate with zero outs. With a new pitcher on the mound, Rosadino crushed one to right field, driving in two runs as he advanced to second for the double. Now with two runners in scoring position and still three outs remaining in the inning,
Bryan Dorsey (Cheshire, Conn.) singled to drive in the go-ahead runs and eventually clinch the Owls fifth straight win as they took the game, 6-4.
Rosadino went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Dorsey, Geffert, DeProspo and Rouleau all went 2-for-5 from the plate and
Michael Johnston (Thomaston, Conn.) received his first career win as an Owl in a relief effort. He pitched three scoreless innings without allowing a hit and struck out three.
The Owls will face Saint Rose once again as they head to Albany, N.Y. tomorrow for a 3 p.m. contest.
