Baseball Sweeps Southern New Hamsphire, Wins Northeast-10 Regular Season Title

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 15 ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team swept Southern New Hampshire in Saturday's doubleheader to claim the Northeast-10 regular season title. The Owls won the first game 8-1 and followed that up with a 6-3 win in game two. With the wins, Southern finishes the regular season with a 34-9-1 overall record and 21-5 conference mark. Southern New Hampshire falls to 17-24-1 overall and 10-14-1 in the NE-10.

The Owls took game one easily, scoring eight runs on 13 hits and allowing just one run. Five Owls recorded two hits as they scored at least one run in five innings. Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with a two RBI home run. #A.J. Rouleau# (Westborough, Mass.) was 2-for-5 with a run scored and a double and Bryan Dorsey (Cheshire, Conn.) hit a double and scored twice. Ryan Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.) recorded the win, allowing just one run on five hits in eight innings pitched.

In game two, the Owls led 2-1 heading into the fifth. Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.) led off with a double to center field. After advancing to third on a fly out, Rouleau drove him in with a RBI single. Later in the inning with runners on first and second, Dorsey hit his first career home run as an Owl as Southern pulled ahead, 6-1.

The Penmen would score two more runs in the game but couldn't overcome the five-run deficit as Southern claimed a 6-3 win. Rouleau led the team offensively with three hits in four at-bats and drove in two runs. Dorsey was 2-for-4 with four RBI and scored twice. Kevin Pettine (Somerset, N.J.) recorded the win as he went seven innings, allowing just three runs on seven hits and striking out five. Michael Johnston (Thomaston, Conn.) entered the game in the ninth to record the save. He did not allow a run or hit.

The Owls await the Northeast-10 Conference tournament on May 6.
