Men's Soccer Opens Campaign Against Felician, Caldwell

The Owls take on Felician and Caldwell to open the season.

STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN
The first step towards a 32nd NCAA Tournament berth and seventh NCAA Championship occurs this weekend for the Southern Connecticut State University men' s soccer team.The Owls, who are coming off a 14-5-2 campaign in 2009, take to the pitch for matches against Felician on Thursday and Caldwell on Saturday. Both games are a part of the University of Bridgeport Tournament.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
SCSU starts the year with five matches away from home - two neutral site and three road contests. The home opener is on Sept. 22 against New Haven.

RETURNING A STRONG NUCLEUS
The Owls have a great veteran presence this year with 13 returning players from last year's club.

IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL
Southern Connecticut was selected fourth in the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer coaches' preseason poll.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB
Ten newcomers have joined the Owls for the 2010 campaign - Jon Eckford, Tucker Cumpstone, Ariel Lobo, Jordan Chin, Ross McGibney, Mat Glodack, Doural Scott, Eric Rothbart, Stephen Sasso and Chris Couperus.

THE CAPTAINS
Senior Victor Hernandez and junior Paul Templeton will serve as team captains for the Owls this fall.

LANG CLOSING IN ON 200 WITH THE OWLS
Head coach Tom Lang enters the weekend just two wins shy of 200 for his career on the Owls' sidelines. He has a career mark of 316-140-55.

IN SEASON OPENERS
The Owls are 28-8-6 all-time in season openers. 

CREATING OPPORTUNITIES
Seth Ragaini handed out seven assists in 2009, which was good enough for first place on the team and in the Northeast-10 Conference.

TEMPLETON EXCELLING IN ALL FACETS
Paul Templeton was selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Soccer All-Academic Team following the conclusion of the 2009 season. Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3 to be eligible for consideration.

A HALF DOZEN ALL-CONFERENCE PICKS BACK
Six student-athletes who were recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference at the conclusion of last year's are back this season. Harry Appiah, Yoni Feldman, Victor Hernandez and Paul Templeton were named to the All-Conference squads, while Frank Lara and Seth Ragaini were both All-Rookie Team picks.

ECAC RECOGNITION
Yoni Feldman and Paul Templeton are returning All-ECAC selections from a year ago.

REGIONAL ACCOLADES CONTINUE
Three Owls returning in 2010 - Harry Appiah, Victor Hernandez and Paul Templeton - collected All-Region honors at the conclusion of the 2009 season.

TOURNAMENT FINALISTS
The Owls reached the finals of the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, where they were edged by a nationally ranked LeMoyne squad on the road, 2-1.

ON DECK
The Owls return to the pitch on Sept. 8 for their Northeast-10 opener at St. Anselm.
