Volleyball Drops Northeast-10 Opener To Adelphi, 3-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Megan Lyons (Cold Spring, N.Y.) and sophomore Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas) each registered a double-double, but the Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team lost to Adelphi on Wednesday evening, 3-1. The Panthers took games one and two by scores of 25-10 and 25-19. SCSU rallied for a 25-23 win in game three, but Adelphi captured game four by the same score.

SCSU is now 6-5, 0-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Adelphi is 3-5, 1-0.

Game one was a close affair early on, but the Panthers pulled away by scoring the final 10 points to secure the 25-10 win.

Southern held a 7-6 lead early in game two before the Panthers surged to a 15-11 lead thanks to a 9-4 run. The Owls then scored five of the next six points to even the score at 16-16. Adelphi seized control again though with a 9-3 run to conclude the game.

The Owls held a 4-2 lead early in game three, but the teams went back-and-forth from there. The game was tied at 6-6, 8-8 and 9-9 before Southern scored four of the next five points to take a 13-10 lead. The Owls extended their lead to as many as five points at 20-15 and were able to hang on for the two point win.

Game four nearly saw the Owls force a deciding fifth game. Southern held a 23-20 lead late, but Adelphi scored the final five points to win the game and the match.

Lachowicz had 25 assists and 13 digs for the Owls. Lyons finished with 13 kills and 14 digs. Vanessa Sullivan (Paramus, N.J.) contributed a team-high 19 digs while Lauren McVey (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) tallied 13 digs.

The Owls are back in action on Saturday for a home game against LeMoyne.
