NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team defeated Saint Rose, 6-0 in Tuesday night's Northeast-10 Conference game. With the win, the Owls improved to 7-1 on the season, 5-1 in the NE-10, while Saint Rose dropped to 1-6-1 on the season, and 0-5 in NE-10 play.
SCSU opened the scoring when
Doural Scott's (New Haven, Conn.) goal 27:17 into the game put the Owls ahead, 1-0. Frank Lara (Laredo, Texas) delivered the lone assist on the goal.
The Owls scored again when
Ross McGibney's (Dublin, Ireland) shot found the back of the net at the 32:06 mark to give SCSU a 2-0 lead. The goal was set up by an assist from
Victor Hernandez (Rye Book, N.Y.).
The final goal of the first half came off the leg of
Harry Appiah (Pawtucket, R.I.) with exactly five minutes remaining until halftime as his unassisted goal put the Owls up 3-0 at the intermission.
SCSU opened the scoring in the second half when
Cedric Panzu's goal 9:36 into the half gave the Owls a 4-0 lead. Scott recorded an assist on the goal.
The Owls added to their lead when
Ariel Lobo (Medford, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal at the 59:47 mark of the game to extend SCSU's lead to 5-0.
Panzu added his second goal of the game with 17:43 to go as the Owls took a commanding 6-0 lead.
Paul Templeton's (Saltcoats, Scotland) pass set up the final goal of the game.
Goalkeeper
Andrew Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) made three saves in the winning effort, as he recorded his third shutout in as many games.
For Saint Rose, Patrick Ohlsson made four saves in the contest.
The Owls return to action when they travel to take on Franklin Pierce on Saturday.
