Men's Soccer Heads To St. Anselm For Lone Match This Week

CONFERENCE PLAY BEGINS
Fresh off two non-conference wins against Felician and Caldwell to open the 2010 season, the Southern Connecticut State University men' s soccer team returns to the pitch on Wednesday for its lone game of the week. The Owls travel north to take on St. Anselm in their Northeast-10 Conference opener. Game time is set for 4 p.m.

HERNANDEZ HELPS OUT
Senior Victor Hernandez assisted on all three Owls' goals last week. For his efforts, he was named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll.

RYBACKI NAMED TO WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Senior keeper Chris Rybacki stopped five of six shots he saw last week - including a three-save shutout against Felician - to earn Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll laurels.

LANG EARNS 200TH WIN WITH OWLS
Head coach Tom Lang recorded his 200th career win at SCSU on Saturday with the 2-1 win over Caldwell. He has a career mark of 318-140-55.

IMMEDIATE IMPACT
Sophomore Ross McGibney, a newcomer to this year's squad, registered the game-winning goal in his second contest with the Owls on Saturday against Caldwell.

PICKING UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF
Paul Templeton and Harry Appiah, two of the team's top returning scorers from a year ago, both registered goals over the course of the opening two games.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
SCSU starts the year with five matches away from home - two neutral site and three road contests. The home opener is on Sept. 22 against New Haven. 

RETURNING A STRONG NUCLEUS
The Owls have a great veteran presence this year with 13 returning players from last year's club.

IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL
Southern Connecticut was selected fourth in the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer coaches' preseason poll.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB
Ten newcomers have joined the Owls for the 2010 campaign - Jon Eckford, Tucker Cumpstone, Ariel Lobo, Jordan Chin, Ross McGibney, Mat Glodack, Doural Scott, Eric Rothbart, Stephen Sasso and Chris Couperus.

THE CAPTAINS
Senior Victor Hernandez and junior Paul Templeton will serve as team captains for the Owls this fall.

CREATING OPPORTUNITIES
Seth Ragaini handed out seven assists in 2009, which was good enough for first place on the team and in the Northeast-10 Conference.

TEMPLETON EXCELLING IN ALL FACETS
Paul Templeton was selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Soccer All-Academic Team following the conclusion of the 2009 season. Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3 to be eligible for consideration.

A HALF DOZEN ALL-CONFERENCE PICKS BACK
Six student-athletes who were recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference at the conclusion of last year's are back this season. Harry Appiah, Yoni Feldman, Victor Hernandez and Paul Templeton were named to the All-Conference squads, while Frank Lara and Seth Ragaini were both All-Rookie Team picks.

ECAC RECOGNITION
Yoni Feldman and Paul Templeton are returning All-ECAC selections from a year ago.

REGIONAL ACCOLADES CONTINUE
Three Owls returning in 2010 - Harry Appiah, Victor Hernandez and Paul Templeton - collected All-Region honors at the conclusion of the 2009 season.

TOURNAMENT FINALISTS
The Owls reached the finals of the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, where they were edged by a nationally ranked LeMoyne squad on the road, 2-1.

ON DECK
The Owls return to the pitch on Sept. 14 for a game at Assumption.
