Late Rally Pushes Saint Anselm Past Southern Connecticut, 51-47

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Saint Anselm women's basketball team scored 22 of the final 25 points of the game to post a 51-47 come-from-behind win over Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday evening at Moore Field House. The Owls used a 19-0 second half run to stretch out a 15-point lead, but were unable to hang on for the win.

SCSU is now 6-11, 2-10 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Saint Anselm is 7-9, 4-8 in league action.

Sylvonya Moore (Stockton, Calif.) led the Owls with nine points. Shelley Pierson (Watervliet, N.Y.) pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to lead SCSU in that department.

Trailing 29-25 early in the second half, the Owls rolled off 19 straight points to take a 44-29 lead with 8:56 remaining. However, the Hawks chipped away. The Owls were still up seven, 47-40, with 3:51 remaining, but the visitors closed the game with an 11-0 run to capture the win.

St. Anselm held control early and was up seven, 14-7, with 11:25 left in the opening half. The lead stretched to 10 at 22-12 before SCSU closed the half with an 11-3 run to get within a bucket at the break at 25-23.

All eight Owls who played scored on the night.

SCSU is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Southern New Hampshire.
