Moni Smith-Ocran (Bronx, N.Y.) both tallied double-doubles, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team was edged by Stonehill in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Wednesday night.
The Owls are now 6-7, 2-6 in NE-10 play. Stonehill moved to 9-4, 4-4.
Moore finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Smith-Ocran scored 12 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in just 15 minutes of action.
The game was a close affair throughout. There were eight ties and 12 lead changes in the opening half. Neither team led by more than five at any point in the frame. The Owls led by a point with just over four minutes to go in the half, but Stonehill scored eight of the final 10 points to take a 42-37 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Southern Connecticut scored the first six points after the break to regain the lead at 43-42. However, Stonehill answered with a 6-0 run of its own to restore the five-point cushion at 48-43.
The Owls hung around and finally forged back in front at 52-51 with 9:05 remaining. However, it was the last lead of the night for SCSU. Stonehill went on a 12-2 run over the next six minutes to take its largest lead of the game at 63-54. The Owls would get no closer than three the rest of the way.
Keshia Primo (Mississauga, Ont.) led all Owls with 15 points in the contest.
Logan Lentz (Chambersburg, Pa.) also scored 14 points for the Owls.
Southern Connecticut is back in action on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. start against No. 24 nationally ranked Bentley.
