NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Four Owls reached double figures, including a double-double effort from senior
Shelley Pierson (Watervliet, N.Y.), but the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team lost to No. 19 nationally ranked Bentley, 77-61, on Saturday afternoon at Moore Field House.
The Owls are now 6-8, 2-7 in Northeast-10 play. Bentley improved to 12-1, 9-0 in league action.
Southern Connecticut fared well in the shooting department in the opening half. The Owls connected on 15-of-29 shots (51.7%). However, Bentley hit on 16-of-31 shots (51.6%) and held a 50-35 advantage at the break.
The Falcons scored the first eight points of the game and led by as many as 19 in the opening half.
Bentley extended its lead to 24 points at 66-42 with just over five minutes elapsed in the second half. However, the Owls stormed back with a 17-2 run to close within nine, 68-59, with just under eight minutes remaining.
The Falcons scored nine of the final 11 points of the game to make it a 16-point final margin of victory.
Sylvonya Moore (Stockton, Calif.) scored a team-high 19 points for the Owls in the contest.
Keshia Primo (Mississagua, Ont.) had 15 points, while Pierson added 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Logan Lentz (Chambersburg, Pa.) added 11 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
The Owls are back in action on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. road game at St. Michael's.
