THE WEEK AHEAD
Coming off of back-to-back home victories, the No. 25 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team will play a road game at Franklin Pierce this week on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
SHUTOUTS CONTINUE
After shutting out their oponents in the first seven games of the season, the Owls have returned to their defensive ways as they have registered four straight shutouts since allowing a goal against Stonehill. The Owls are now three shutouts shy of the all-time SCSU record of 14 set by the 2000 squad.
OWLS EARN NE-10 HONORS
Jacquelyn Fede, Lisamarie Tarchini and Jenna Mallico were all recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference for their play last week. Fede was named Goalie of the Week, Tarchini was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Mallico was named to the weekly honor roll.
SETTING THE STANDARD
The Owls have moved to the top spot in three Division II soccer statistical categories. As a team, the Owls are best in goals against average (0.08), shutout percentage (0.92) and save percentage (0.97). In addition, Jacquelyn Fede leads the nation in save percentage (.971) and ranks second in goals against average (0.08)
IN THE NATIONAL, REGIONAL RANKINGS
The Owls were ranked No. 25 in the latest NSCAA national poll and were ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA East region poll last week.
PROTECTING THEIR HOUSE
The Owls have been perfect at home thus far, going 6-0 while not surrendering a goal.
TARCHINI SETS CAREER MARK
Lisamarie Tarchini has set a career-high in points this season with eight on four goals scored.
MALLICO LOCKED IN
Jenna Mallico followed up last season's hat trick against Bentley by scoring two more goals against the Falcons in last week's game. She now has three goals and an assist on the year.
IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL
The Owls were picked eighth in the Northeast-10 Conference Coaches' preseason poll. SCSU just missed out on the league tournament in 2010.
LOTS OF RETURNING TALENT
The Owls have 16 players returning to the field this season.
ROOKIES LOOKING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The Owls are looking forward to the addition of seven newcomers to the team this year - Katelyn Fortier, Hannah Spreckley, Stephanie Santos, Ashlyn Zacarelli, Raven Palmerie, Ashleigh Tracy and Bryana Poulin.
FOLLOW THE LEADERS
Head coach Adam Cohen has announced that senior Alison Ditolla and graduate student Jacquelyn Fede will serve as team captains for the Owls this year.
LOOKING BACK AT 2010
The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team capped off the 2010 season with an overall mark of 8-6-3. The Owls were regionally ranked for most of the campaign.
TWO EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Forward Jenna Mallico and defender Sarah Brochu were both recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference for their play during the 2010 season.
THREE NAMED ALL-NEW ENGLAND
Jenna Mallico, Katie DiDio and Sarah Brochu were all selected All-New England for their play during the 2010 season.
FARING WELL IN THE CLASSROOM
In 2010, 14 members of the women's soccer team were selected to the Northeast-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
SUCCESS AS A TEAM AS WELL
The Owls were also recognized with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic Team Award for posting a cumulative team grade point average of greater than 3.0.
